LOOK AFTER YOUR LOCAL BEACH -ORGANISE A BEACHWATCH BEACH CLEAN AND SURVEY.
Marine Conservation Society's adopt beaches around Great Britain to do a clean up on beach. They have got over 900 passionate organisers all around the U.K and they would love you to join them!
Organising a beachwatch clean is easy and they have loads of resources to help you. If you are interested and would like to help you can contact them on 01989 566017.
WHY BEACHWATCH ORGANISERS ARE FANTASTIC!
They're the people who makes the surveys happen. Without them, our beaches would be dirtier and less loved, and our wildlife would be more at risk of entanglement. Most importantly, they wouldn't have any data on the litter around our coastline. On every beachwatch beach clean, their volunteers record the litter they collect and send the data to them. This gives them information about trends, sources and where to focus their campaigns to stop litter from getting to the beach in the first place.
MORE THAN JUST A BEACH CLEAN UP
How do we stop litter from reaching our beaches?
Well , they can talk to water companies when they see lots of sewage related debris being recorded, They can prove to decision makers and leaders that our seas are in trouble by showing them over 20 years of litter data. They can talk to companies whose logos keep showing up on beach litter and they can work with manufacturers to find solutions. But they can't do any of this if they don't have the data to back it up.
We are looking at doing a beachwatch beach clean up here at Saltwick Bay on the 18th September and this will certainly help towards our David Bellamy Conservation Award. We have now got the Gold award which is brilliant and any further improvements we can do towards it all helps.
