Boxing Day Dip and Raft Race

For all you mad hatters out there, with Christmas only a week away, why not prepare yourself to brave the freezing cold waters on Boxing Day and join in the fun raising money for charity by doing the Boxing Day Dip in Whitby or the Boxing Day Raft Race in Scarborough Harbour.

The Raft Race at Scarborough is organised every year by the Sub Aqua Club in conjunction with the Fisherman and Fireman Charity fund since 1972.  The day gets going with a comical charity football match on the beach to raise money for the Fisherman and Fireman charity.  This is then followed by the raft race down in the harbour.  Even the crowds get involved in this by throwing eggs and flour at the rafts.  All in all its a very entertaining day raising money for charity!!

The Boxing Day Dip in Whitby is organised by the Whitby Lions Club.  This is another great way of raising money for charity.  You can either do it solely for the Whitby Lions Club, or you can raise money for another charity.  They'll get 80% of the money you raised, with the other 20% going to the Whitby Lions Club.  All you need to do is find an old fancy dress outfit which you no longer wear (and don't mind getting wet!) and head on down to the bandstand to register.   Then its time to join all the other mad hatters in running into the freezing cold north sea!!!

So if your stuck for something to do on Boxing Day why not head down to Scarborough Harbour or down to the beach in Whitby to watch all them mad hatters run into the North Sea on Boxing Day to raise money for Charity.  Both events are worth going to watch, but if you do venture out make sure you wrap up warm!!

Christmas is on its way

CHRISTMAS AT WHITBY

With Christmas only two weeks away, here at Whitby we are really getting in to the Christmas spirit!  Our Christmas decorations are up in the office and even Santa is here to say hello.

 

There is even a bit of a competition going on across the park to see who can decorate their chalet or caravan the best!!So far it seems that Sue the Manager, is in the lead with her red, white and blue flashing lights lighting up her chalet and the way on to the park.

In the week leading up to Christmas you may find all the staff here at Whitby in our Christmas jumpers and Christmas hats.  So if you find yourself passing through, or have come up to check on your caravan, don't forget to pop in to the office to see us and say hello as a warm welcome awaits you, and maybe even a nice mince pie too!!

Popular events in 2014!

Whitby has plenty of amazing events already lined up for 2014 so make sure you book with us now to avoid disappointment as spaces are already starting to go!

For the lovers of 60s music, make sure you've got your touring caravan or motor home booked in with us for the 60s weekend in June and the 60s Festival in September!  Have a weekend packed full of 60s music, featuring some of the biggest names of the 1960s from Friday night to Sunday night.  If you don't fancy three nights in your tourer, then why not book one of our static caravans where you'll have your home away from home luxeries.

If 60s music is not your scene, then why not try the Soul Weekender in July.  The original Soul Weekend, annually packed and featuring the best in Northern Soul, Motown and Modern Soul.  This Soul Weekend has been running since 2002 and offers daytime sessions as well as night time entertainment.  This weekend allows for a relaxing break as well as the time honored soul experience.

Or why not try the Motown weekend, for those who want a lighter weekend with more familiar favourites from the world of Motown.  This takes place in September, but don't forget to book your place soon as this is a very popular weekend!

   

If 60s and Soul music is not your thing, then why not head to Whitby for the annual Regatta in August which starts on the Saturday and finishes on the Monday night with a spectacular firework display!  There are three days of entertainment for all the family to enjoy including yacht racing, rowing races, fun fair and various free forms of entertainment around the town.

If you like to play and sing Folk Music, or even if you just like to sit and listen to it, make sure you get yourself to Whitby for the Whitby Folk Week which takes place in August!!  Wander through the town and venture in to many of the pubs, grab yourself a drink then sit and listen or partake in all or some of the many Folk sessions going on throughout the week.  Many sure you get yourself down early though to get a seat as many of the session can get very busy early on!

For all you Goths out there, make sure you get your spot booked early for next year as the October Goth Weekend is celebrating its 20th Anniversary!!  As you may well know, the main events are held at the Whitby Spa, but there is live music at various hotels and pubs across the weekend.  This event has become one of the worlds most popular Gothic events so make sure you don't miss out!!
